PAI welcomes your interest in serving on the Office of Clients’ Rights Advocacy (OCRA’s) Advisory Committee. OCRA was established by PAI pursuant to a contract with the Department of Developmental Services to provide statewide clients’ rights advocacy services to persons with developmental disabilities. The Advisory Committee is a voluntary committee established to help guide the work of OCRA to ensure it provides quality advocacy services to people with developmental disabilities and their families.

In order that its Advisory Committee reflects California’s ethnic diversity, people of color are encouraged to apply. PAI’s Board of Directors selects the members of the Advisory Committee.

HOW TO APPLY

If you desire to be on the Advisory Committee, simply complete the attached application, giving as much detail as you can. Send the completed application form and any other documents you wish to submit to:

ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS

1.       How many people will serve on the Advisory Committee?

Seven people will serve on the committee.

2.       Who will appoint members to the Advisory Committee?

PAI’s Board of Directors will appoint the members of the Advisory Committee.

3.       How long are the terms of each appointment?

Each term is for 2 years. The appointment may be renewed for another terms so that it is possible to serve 4 years.

4.       How many meetings will be held each year and where will they be held?

There will be three meetings each year. To be more accessible, the meetings will be held in different areas of the state.

5.       What time obligations are there?

The Advisory Committee will meet on Saturdays or on other days convenient for committee members. Occasionally, members may serve on a sub-committee.

6.       Is there any cost to be a member?

No. OCRA will pay for all travel, room, and board expenses connected with the Advisory Committee meetings. This also includes accommodations for Advisory Committee members with disabilities. Members will not be paid for their services.

7.       Can anyone be appointed?

Advisory Committee members must be a regional center consumer or a family member of a regional center consumer or a member of a stakeholder group.

Members may not work for any State of California Agency or Department that provides services to people with developmental disabilities.

PAI’s Board of Directors is committed to appointing members to the Advisory Committee that are representative of California’s diverse ethnic and cultural communities and will make efforts to insure the OCRA Advisory Committee reflects different geographic areas of the state and different types of developmental disabilities.

8.       How do I apply for a position on the Advisory Committee?
