Susan Rodde wins Sandra Jensen AwardS usan Rodde has received the 2000 Sandra Jensen Advocacy Award for her work in advocacy and education. PAI and People First created this award to honor the work of people with developmental disabilities. Rodde was chosen from 186 nominees. "Since the day I learned that I was going to get the award, I was honored. I will be for the rest of my life. I hope to live up to this award even after someone else has the honor of getting it," said Rodde.Rodde is active in advocacy groups Rodde, who has cerebral palsy, founded the Consumer Advocacy Group. She is on the Harbor Regional Center client advisory committee and the client services committee. She also serves on PAI’s board of directors. Jensen fought for equal health care Sandra Jensen’s advocacy for people with disabilities inspired the award Rodde received. When Jensen need a heart/lung transplant, doctors refused because she had Down syndrome. They said that her disability would keep her from caring for herself after surgery. With PAI and her own doctor, Jensen won her right to have the transplant. |
